Cleansing should leave your face feeling fresh and comfortable, yet many people notice an unpleasant tightness after washing. That sensation is not proof of thoroughly clean skin. It may be a sign that the skin’s protective surface film has been damaged or stripped away.

Protecting this layer begins with choosing a gentle cleanser. Amino acid-based cleansers are one option: their mild cleansing properties help remove impurities while minimizing irritation and damage to the protective film.
Washing frequency matters as well. For most people, cleansing once in the morning and once in the evening is enough. If your skin produces little oil, rinsing with plain water in the morning may be sufficient.
Use lukewarm water close to body temperature. This allows you to cleanse effectively without placing unnecessary stress on the skin’s protective layer.
Applying moisturizer promptly after cleansing is another important step in protecting and repairing the film. Look for products containing ingredients such as natural moisturizing factors and ceramides. These help replenish moisture and lipids, improve the skin’s ability to retain water, and support the recovery of its protective surface layer.
